Liber Amicorum

This exceeds my latin currently, what does it mean? As far as I can tell it's a tittle?.

Not sure it's Latin, CM...Liberum means Free, I've never seen it shortened like that. Huh.

Amicus means Friend; again, an odd form.

Ya know what? I think someone got their syllables mixed up; maybe the proper phrase is Amicus Liberum ...Friends are free...

Im not so sure Knothead, if you enter liber-amicorum in google it comes up as some kind of tittle before peoples names?

Seems to be some kind of tittle, look at this:

http://www.colin-smythe.com/authors/.../armorial1.htm

Also look at this:

http://www.uic.edu/depts/lib/project...asi/coats.html

Im confused.

Evidently a "guest book" for those of noble heraldry. Kind of the ancient version of "George Washington Slept Here."

The modern version might be a hotel registry.

Depending on the ending both amicus and liber have adjective and noun forms:

liber adj: free noun: child
amicus: adj: friendly noun: friend
