Kids why do i have to press "1" for english

I do love our cosmopolitan country and I do respect every nationality , but why our spanish population refuses to learn english? like I and many of my friends did? We have spent a good amount of money and time to learn english. Why do they not and who is that person who is making their life easlier and why?
I think if you decided to come to USA you must learn english unless you are to old and have a bad memory.
Contractor we hired to renovate our house is a spanish and he speaks a very poor english , but he is making a more money than a regular english speaking guy .I wish that I could never press "1" for english unless Im in Spanish speaking countries

IHMO.... There should not be any of this dual language crap here.

I'm sorry but this country was built with the english language and it should stay that way. I should not have to "press 1 for English" or see signs that cater to foreign languages. I have absolutely no problem with other people coming to the US, I for one was one of them.... However, They don't need to come expecting everyone to cater to them. They need to learn the language and conform to the rest of the population here.

In Canada, it is a bi-lingual country, Everything pretty much is that way, road signs, cereal boxes, etc. That is a different story. Its been that way for years. If I am not mistaken, you must learn both languages while in school there.
