I Love being part of the TechIMO UD Team.

I'm having so much fun with the cancer research team!

Venturing into this area (all of distributed computing) was tough for me, it seemed so technically oriented at first glance, and I felt like I could not contribute anything of value.

But I held my breath and jumped into RC-5. But, there were some issues there that were not my style so I started looking for something else.
I had seen Phenious post about cancer cracking but chose to run Seti instead. (I didn't really understand what UD did). But I had conflicts and it would lock me up on occasion.

So I decided to listen to Phenious.

I tried UD Think.

I am so glad I did.
It feels good to me; I am not a math type person. I don't know what elliptic curves are, and as to the largest number in pi well, hmm I like cake…..so?
I am a people person so that may be the appeal of UD.

I also know first hand what cancer does to someone.
I cared for a lifelong friend for 3 months living with her and creating a Hospice environment for her as she was ravaged and finally succumbed to cancer leaving behind a 3-year-old daughter.
She was 42.
Her Name is Denise Bourgette.
I will always be her friend and she lives in my heart.
It was a very difficult time.
Perhaps one-day better defenses and maybe even eradication will come about for this enemy called cancer. Perhaps the little girl or boy you pass on the street will benefit from our work.
Perhaps not,
but you know the old saying..
Nothing ventured Nothing gained.
Where else can you venture so little and stand to gain so much?

I have to strongly second what surreal said. I have a friend fighting cancer right now. I plan to go visit him today, as soon as I feel I am ready.
Hopefully someday Cancer will no longer a threat, and I am very glad to be part of a community helping to get us there.

My hope - is that perhaps when my 7yr old is grown and has kids, that they'll get a cancer vaccine in the hospital - right at birth.

And maybe, we'll have helped.

Interesting. I'm from India and I don't see it in the list. Either they don't have the figures compiled (doubtful) or its very low. I do know Indians are more prone to heart disease than cancer. We hardly hear of people getting cancer. May be due to the environment. Who knows? But heart attacks are very common in my country especially in the 35-45 age group.

But, I too have seen cancer suffering though not very close hand. It sucks big time. The treatment is often worse than the disease (chemotherapy in particular). And what Surreal and the team are doing is eventually going to benefit the greater mankind.

There were a couple of reasons that I joined the UD team.

1) While I was overseas in the service my mother got breast cancer. She caught it early enough and got rid of it. ( thank god ).

2) The lady that sits beside me at work is going through treatments right now for cancer.

3) This is one of the things that I feel we have a good chance of curing.

Remember that smallpox used to kill thousands of people, now you really do not even hear about it. Someday this will be said of cancer. I just hope to see it in my time.

just my $.02 and yes I would like my change please

I've said it before and I'll say it again - it feels great when YOU'RE actually doing something important towards the fight for a cure or advancements in the field. Although, it kind of makes me feel a little guilty that I can't do more, since it's too easy!

A close family friend is a recent cancer survivor, and my grandpa just had surgery for cancer (with no followup! yay!)... My great-aunt was just recently diagnosed with it, as well.. :-/ All of the people just listed are probably some of the nicest people you've ever met. I find the theory that only GOOD people get cancer to be TOO true in so many cases...
