Point of Sale/ Accounting Software

I am needing some recommendations for a couple of freinds of mine who are planning to open thier own store up.

The key features they need the software to handle are Inventory Control, Accounting and Customer Tracking. The customer tracking they want to be able to keep track of the cutomer purchase history and also a place to store thier indivuual infomation, (email, phone, address and what thier interst are in that particular store. ) and such,

They are look at a couple of POS systems, but my biggest concern is the ability to import sales into an accounting program. so the accounting program needs to be able to import sales just about from any POS system.

What kinds of software would you all recommend.
Both POS and Accounting.

Hmm look around for information on EDI
Electronic Data Interchange.

I used to work in the POS industry, although we just sold/leased credit card equipment.

I would be suprised if somebody hasn't brought the two together, and developed a single package.

PeachTree acct is a HUGE package, but that maybe too big...
