WOXY gone =( need new alt-rock

www.woxy.com

I only recently had found this alternative rock station online. It is great but will be leaving the airwaves =(
(read about it here http://www.enquirer.com/editions/200...oc_woxy30.html )

I was hearing real music... beautiful stuff like TV on the Radio's "Staring at the Sun" and "Ambulance" and Calexico's "Alone Again Or" just to name a few. Stuff that I never stood a chance on hearing anywhere on the radio around here that's for damn sure. They played a wide mix of major and independent labels and it was just great. I am not the sort of person that eats, drinks, and sleeps music... but that doesn't mean I enjoy good music.

So once it is gone, I am back in the land of crap on the radio around here...

Is anyone else famiar with WOXY... and does anyone know of a similar streaming station?

Our local community college station plays alternative. Give them a try.

They are a local NPR affiliate so news in the morning and afternoon, but commercial-free music the rest of the time.

With streaming, why do we need radio stations? It seems to me that there is a finite number of channels in a market. If one wanted to buy one, they cost tens of millions and need FCC approval. However, setting up a streaming site is relatively cheap.

The new liberal radio network, Air America Radio (http://AirAmericaRadio.com), has crappy AM stations in several markets but streams 2 million listeners nationwide.New devices make it easy to connect the PC's stream to one's audio system.

There is a big difference in the royalties the two types of stations must pay. Airwave broadcasts only pay a small fee to the actual writer of the songs. Artists, record labels, etc get nothing (they are supposed to get nothing anyways). Streaming stations must pay greater royalties to everyone; writers, artists, record labels etc.
