Can a money order be cancelled and resent??

I have a bad bad feeling I have thrown away a money order. It was sent disguised as junk mail...and the disguise worked!! I am getting ready to go rummage thru the dumpster.

Can the guy just cancel it and get it resent again or what?? How does it all work??

Thanks, JP

For a U.S. Postal Service money order, yes. There's a form to fill out, then they verify that it hasn't been cashed. If it was a private company money order, I don't know.

ok, I did this search on Google (of course) and found a buncha sites advertising money orders. now onto the answer...

(reading, hold on...)

at Western Union this is the info they provide on "sending payment"

this is info provided on how to "get Paid" and issues that may come up if your money isn't received within 10 days.

this is a diagram of how an online auction works using the money order payment method.

I hope this helps. this has been very informative for myself as well, as I am about to start selling my collected stuff on eBay.

*hmm...I was beat to the response, but I did more research, hehe, and was watching COPS, so of course it took longer for me!
have a good one, JP!

Well I dont know where he got the Mo from yet..I have to wait to hear from him.

I am seriously miffed. I had a really busy week last week....a funeral on the day he pm'ed me saying it was coming in a "pitney bowes pamphlet" and not to throw it away etc.

I read that and it didnt really click when I read it....I am sure I threw it away. Somehow it clicked in my head as it was coming in a manilla envelope or something....I looked today at the pm and saw the word "pamphlet"....I am sure when I see a pamphlet in my mail that it goes directly in the trash, lol.

Are MO's frequently stolen? Just curious about the junk-mail disguise is all.

Well he said he didnt want it to be obvious that it is was a MO....I have seen people just wrap a piece of notebook of paper around the Mo so it isnt obvious.

I totally forgot to be looking for somethign special...so i am sure I threw it straight into the garbage

update by the other party, i have assured John all is on the up and up.

i have just found the receipt and it was a PO MO, will find out whats going on tomorrow.

Sent it out priority, have the receipt for that as well. Anyone know if that can be traced?

I will find out myself soon enough. I have assured John I will drive it up personally if I have to and cancel the MO.

just to be clear...I was never doubting crossedup on this....I was just miffed cuz its my rent money, lol....but as soon as he said it was in a priority envelope I knew I didn throw it away....

anyway, just making clear that I was in no way trying to imply wrongdoing on his part...he has good heatware etc and I dont think any of this will change that
