Identify this cartoon - blast from the past!

i was talking with a co-worker today and we need some help identifying a cartoon.

i remember watching it back in the 70's, but like many cartoons it might actually have been been produced earlier than that.

anyways, it starred a bunch of characters who flew those WWI biplanes. the head of villians was a guy (i think he also had a moustache) who had a scrufy-looking dog that would always laugh at him when his schemes went wrong.

that's about all i can remember for now.

does anyone here know what i'm talking about?!?

dude, are you thinking of Dick Dasterdly and Mutley?

I don't know the name of the original cartoon they were in, but they were also in, I believe it was called "the international race of champions" against other cartoon characters from other shows.

I sort of rememebr the all star race thing...it had Penelope Pitstop..and two caveman dudes who would hit each other over the head with clubs as their means of propulsion, lol.

Of course Penelope had her own show "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop"

Wacky Races was the original series which had these characters then it produced 2 spin offs which were "Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines" and "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop".

The show ran from 1968 to 1970.
