The Law of Unanticipated Consequences strikes again:

BERLIN (Reuters) - The German government's plans to levy fines on companies that fail to hire trainees will also be applied to legal German brothels, Der Spiegel news magazine reported Sunday.

Brothels failing to employ a certain number of apprentices will not be exempted from the financial penalties that Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's government wants to introduce on all companies later this year, the magazine said.

The legislation drafted by the Social Democrats and their Greens coalition partners will fine companies that do not have one apprentice for every 15 workers.

Several members of the Greens party tried to allow an exemption for prostitutes but the Education Ministry responsible for the legislation blocked that, arguing it "would cause considerable difficulties," Der Spiegel said.

I wonder if the German government will offer training grants?

Got to train your replacement in case you are hurt/killed or you just get tired and retire.

Prostitution is legal in a great many countries, including our own(if only in one state). Greece Germany, South Africa, Netherlands, Turkey, and many others I cant remember.

I have read that Prostitution is legal in England and Wales, as long as it is only with one person, in a house/flat.

BERLIN, Germany — A German artist has applied for a license to open a brothel in Berlin for sexually frustrated dogs and says it will be the first of its kind anywhere.

Karl-Friedrich Lenze, 54, said he planned to charge dog owners $27 per half hour of happiness.

"If dogs can't get what they want, they get cranky — just like people," Lenze told Reuters.

The establishment would offer patrons a variety of carefully vetted "employees" of both sexes, rooms for private encounters and even a "bar" where customers could sniff out their preferred partner.
