the word "Tennessee" an anapest? (english term confusion)

an anapest is a syllabic foot which follows the pattern

__ __ |

(unstressed syllable, unstressed syllable, stressed syllable)

My english teacher gave the word "tennessee" as an example.
But is it really?

I mean do you say:

tenesEEE (emphasis on the EEEE)

or (what i say)

tEHHnesee (emphasis on the ehhhh)

just want another opinion

Lemon[H]ead,
Your teacher is correct. The word, btw, is an American Indian word, like many, many others place names in America.

FYI

The following is from Tennessee Historical Quarterly, Vol. 30, No. 4, Winter 1971, pg. 344:

The origin of the name "Tennessee" is associated with the Overhill Cherokee town of Tanase (in what is now Monroe County) and the Tanase River (the Little Tennessee), in southeastern Tennessee. The Cherokee word, of uncertain meaning, has been given the fanciful derivations of "winding river" and "river of the great bend". The modern spelling of "Tennessee" was noted as early as 1754 and was applied by 1793 to that section of transmontane North Carolina then known as the Territory of the United States of America South of the River Ohio.

what is the point of this word existing?
anapest?

Ok so if you have a
_ _ | its anapest

what if its _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |?
what if its | |

is there really a word for EACH type of sylabic possibilty?

Thats what I've always hated about english, they feel like they've gotta put a word for EVERYTHING.

If you have a sentence that has 3 words... wHOA thats not a sentence that is a... .fill in the blank blahhhhhh

give it a break (not you lemonhead )
Why can't we just speak the freakin' language and not have to hold a microscope to it to investigate, and name every syllable, sentence creation.

Ugh
sorry needed to vent

Vass:
In poetry, yes there is.

you got:

Spondeeic foot | |
Pyrrhic foot __ __
dactylic foot | __ __
anapestic foot __ __ |
trocheeic foot | __
iambic foot __ |

Quote:
what if its _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |?
what if its | |
so we got the second one covered - its a spondeeic foot.

the first one. Well its extremely unlikely.
