Plot to kill 80,000 foiled in Jordan. Why no reports on major networks?
This has hit the airwaves here and there, mainly on talk radio, but it is a huge story! If these people would have been successful they would have killed 80,000 people according to estimates. http://www.nypost.com/news/worldnews/23377.htm Quote: |
In a confession aired on Jordanian state TV, al-Jayousi, the head of the Jordanian cell of al Qaeda, admitted he was schooled in explosives and poisons in Afghanistan, then plotted in Iraq with Jordanian militant Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, a close associate of Osama bin Laden.
| This story is being ignored for purely partisan reasons!

| LOL, it headlined at cnn.com for two days in a row or so. http://www.techimo.com/forum/t108525.html
Must be too busy digging up dirt on Kerry to post. Understandable.

CNN.com is not a major news outlet.
My point is that it is largely ignored by television news station, most notable ABC, CBS, and NBC.

| Last I checked CNN was a pretty major news outlet not "the airwaves here and there." If I remember correctly it was also on the cover of USA Today.
I do note however, that the article you have posted paints it in the worst possible light. Of course that lends more credence to the statement "This story is being ignored for purely partisan reasons!"
I dunno what ABC, NBC, CBS etc have been saying as I don't usually watch their news shows. This may not have gotten the press you desire for these reasons: Quote:
U.S. intelligence officials expressed caution about whether the chemicals captured by Jordanian authorities were intended to create a "toxic cloud" chemical weapon, but they said the large quantities involved were at a minimum intended to create "massive explosions."
Officials said there is debate within the CIA and other U.S. agencies over whether the plotters were planning to kill innocent people using toxic chemicals.
At issue is the presence of a large quantity of sulfuric acid among the tons of chemicals seized by Jordanian authorities. Sulfuric acid can be used as a blister agent, but it more commonly can increase the size of conventional explosions, according to U.S. officials.

Dunno where you get your daily news from that you are so out of the loop.
If I remember correctly, those "major news outlets" were always johnny on the spot when reports of WMD caches were made during the invasion.

chuckie, you said Quote: |
CNN.com is not a major news outlet.
| more laughable a statement than any of your Kerry bashing. Quote: |
Do you watch CNN.com on your television?
| Do you get your news from anywhere other than nypost.com
If you are trying to tell me there has been no mention of this on ABC, NBC, and CBS I'd be hard pressed to believe you. Were you expecting them to break into regular programming for this? Or a 1 hour special? Maybe you could star in the "Made for TV Movie."
Why is it you are trying to make things out of nothing?

well hell if you want to bring in the partisan bit into an otherwise good story
Who created the number of '80,000' people?
As far as we know it could of saved the life of one homeless guy.
While still a good thing, 80,000 to 1 is a fairly large ratio
Note: I'm not downplaying the story, just pointing out the fact that bringing partisanship in this is pretty lame.
I also saw this on cnn.COM because the news channels "on your television" are boring ... the .com that you're downplaying as mere minority is a much better venue to get the news you're interested in and leave the fluff out.
and last I checked CNN.com did have a real news channel, but sorry I don't watch it 24/7 to get all the news to verify it aired.

Not everyone gets their info off the internet. Most people get it off the tv or newspaper. That's where it is underreported.
You are more informed than most because you use the internet. Most people don't.

CNN is just as major as ABC, NBC, or CBS. Maybe not a reputable or peer-reviewed source like NYTimes, but a major outlet nonetheless. My guess for them not showing more of this is because it doesn't really concern the average American citizens. Had it actually happened, we might've said "Sorry about the sad news, our condolences" but imo, that's about as far as we're gonna go.
