The "Oil for Food" Fiasco. So much for Kerry's UN buddies!

Interesting read.

Turns out that Clinton's buddy Mark Rich (remember the pardon?) was selling oil.

The U.N. authorized him to sell even while he was still a U.S. fugitive.

ChuckieChan good post but what does this have to do with Kerry? I don’t get where you see a link. Just because the UN is undergoing a very scandalous investigation does not mean that the whole concept of the UN is suspect. We still need them whether we like it or not.

Bill is there a link to the Mark Rich thing?

The members voting against the US in the UN were the French, Germans, and Russians. Kerry feels we should have gotten their votes before we went after Saddam.

Since Iraq was their cash cow, they would never have given permission to raid their piggy bank. Kerry would have deffered to the UN's authority over this matter, IMO.

IE: Leave Iraq alone.

Kerry seems to be sort of imploding.

I wonder if he will even survive to be the actual Dem nominee....or would they pull Hillary out now as opposed to 2008?

I guess they will just keep looking at polls etc.

Yeah, you have a point and I agree that if he (Kerry) were President he might be inclined to just leave it at the UN but then again he most likely would have not brought Iraq up at all.

As a Gulf War Vet I was always of the mind that we would have to deal with Iraq again but I knew that if it were not sooner then the rest of the world would become complacent about the issue and eventually work their own deals with Iraq as the situation is now being exposed to have been happening. Look at Cuba, no one else in the world cares about Cuba except us.

I think that we should have blackmailed them (France, Germany, Russia, UN) into supporting us in Iraq. This oil for food thing was known back then along with other secret or backdoor contracts. If we would have pursued it in that manner back before the war I think we might have been more successful in enlisting their help. The fact that we do not have mass European and/or UN support is a motivator for the Iraqi resistance I think.

A serious achillies heel for Kerry is that to get the UN support from France, Germany, and Russia, is it presumed he will have to promise to abandon the investigation by Paul Volker on behalf of the UN.

The winners: France, Germany, Russia, UN, Kerry.

Losers: USA, Iraq.

I can't believe the Demo's will stay with him. The Republicans stood with Dole to give him the honor for payback of all of his years of service. The Republicans knew they had no chance to win against "Clinton the Schlortmeister".

Bush, on the other hand is more vulnerable than Clinton was.
