VA gravesite locater....
The nationwide grave locator contains more than three million records of veterans and dependents buried in VA's 120 cemeteries since the Civil War. It also has records of some burials in state veterans' cemeteries and burials in Arlington National Cemetery from 1999 to the present.
The innovation will make it easy for anyone with Internet access to search for the gravesite locations of deceased family members and friends. Link updated nightly with information on burials the previous day.

Thanks...this site may help with my genealogy. I have several who died in the Civil War in VA, but do not know where they are interred.
Wonder if there are other states that are setup like this.

It's supposed to be a data base for all the VA gravesites in the U.S.

Yes, now that I have surfed the site some, I see that. At first, it just struck me that the cemeteries were all in one state..
Thanks again.

Like Jesse James..the western outlaw was a grandson of a Woodson in Virginia...his full name was Jesse Woodson James, and is in my maternal lineage! My Mother was a Woodson, born in Fincastle, Botetourt County Virginia.

My grandfather was on the U.S.S. Anchor a day away from pulling into Pearl Harbor before the bombing.
He wasn't buried in a VA Gravesite so his name won't show up.

It seems to me that the VA Graves Registration section should be plugged into the website. This outfit sends flat grave markers all over the country to all cemetaries. My brother and hundreds of WWII, Korean, WWI, are in a Catholic cemetary in Chicago. Are these vets recorded on the website?

Just wish I could find where my ggreat Uncle Isaac who died August 27, 1863 in the Exchange Hotel, (Hospital) Gordonsville, Virginia, of battle wounds we think, is buried.

Bovon,
I've been a long time subscriber to "Civil War Times-Illustrated", and I'm sure this subject has come up in the past. There's another magazine called "America's Civil War". Surly they have the wherewithall to help those wishing to find their heretige! |
