One Thing Kerry Stands For
For those of you who believe that John Kerry doesn't stand for anything, here's today's campaign stop. Quote:
Kerry has added a line to his stump speech warning that expected openings on the Supreme Court in coming years could jeopardize the right to an abortion.
"If you need any motivation let me give you three little words -- the Supreme Court," Kerry says at every stop.
Kerry's rally on Friday comes ahead of Sunday's march in Washington, organized by groups such as the National Organization for Women, NARAL Pro-choice America and the Planned Parenthood Federation. | As the article points out, this divisive issue has not been raised much, if at all so far, in the campaign. I'm sure that will change. This may prove to mobilize more voters than the war, IMO.

I agree with pro-choice but how will he square his beliefs with the "Cardinal: No Communion for Pro-Abortion Politicians" being touted by a Catholic Cardinal?

From Tom Lehrer's The Vatican Rag --
Get in line in that processional,
Step into that small confessional,
There, the guy who’s got religion’ll
Tell you if your sin’s original.
If it is, try playin’ it safer,
Drink the wine and chew the wafer,
Two, four, six, eight,
Time to transubstantiate!
Maybe he'll have to skip the wafer? |

Maybe he opposes situations like this Quote:
I march because my only choice was an abortion done on a kitchen table in a dirty house, with a single light bulb that glared in my eyes as I looked at the paint peeling off of a dingy, yellowed ceiling.
I march because I did not know the name of the man who drove me to this location or returned me to my neighborhood, or the name of the woman who held a pill to my mouth "so I wouldn't feel anything".
I march because the man, whose transparent attempt at disguise failed to prevent me from realizing he was the man who owned a warehouse in my neighborhood.
I march because the memory of the night I cried from pain, fear and loneliness while my insides burned as if on fire as I lay on that table is always only, ever,a heartbeat away.
I march because I lived after being dropped off 3 long blocks from my apartment building, and could feel the blood running down my legs as I trudged home on a dark, hot, summer night.
I march because when I was taken to the emergency room a compassionate physician knew what questions not to ask.
I march because I lived.
I march because, sadly, there is no other choice but to march.

Will they be carrying signs reading:
"No more dead in Iraq, war kills!"
or,
"I marched to the drugstore for a rubber!"
or,
"Adoptees for abortion!"
or,
"Die now, die later. What's the difference?"
See you at communion, Mr. Kerry.

Well, estimates of anywhere from 500,000 - 800,000 people today in Washington D.C. at the March for Women's Lives disagree with you.

| Who will be holding that one? A rapist?

I'm sure there's more elsewhere that disagree
Neither side is going to help the country much, and may hurt more than anything. The adoption system is in shambles (and pretty much always was), and that is not much of an option. And what are we going to do about totally unplanned pregnacies (aka rape pregnacies)? Get the rapists to wear condoms? Have all the rapists castrated (wait...that's not such a bad idea.)?
The Christian in me says that this is still a life, even if it's only potential. But what potential. The Christian in me also says that the Death Penalty is immoral, as they are still life, no matter how bad.
Both of those get filed under the 'What's the Alternative?' Department. I sure as hell hope we find them.
