My hometown isn't on the list, but it's stressed out HUGE!! The CAW union is turning it into a craphole. I have friends that were laid off at Ford, but they didn't blame the "Import" buyers, they blamed the buy domestic campaign that the CAW ran. That and the fact that people don't want Ford minivans, they want DCX ones.
I have lots of friends that work at the Casino as well, and they are on strike (going into 3rd week I believe). Their union leader recently went to meet with Casino management and stormed out of the room "swearing like crazy". Is that the tactic you use when you don't get your way? Swear like crazy when the media is outside? Publicity stunt. Whatever. Guess who their union is? CAW.
Let's see, Casino is still making money for sure, but it's a lot less money now that other casinos have opened nearby, but you still want them to pay out MORE?! There's just no logic. I hope the Casino packs up and leaves town. Casino Windsor is already on the "blacklist" of "unreliable" Casinos, this strike just makes it worse.
Workers are complaining they're on constant night shift, even though when they applied for the job, it was labeled as "night shift". Some people don't get holidays off, no guff...you work a service industry where you are paid very well compared to others in the service industry.
So let's see, the city's second biggest employer is on strike, nobody is coming to spend money there, so "spinoff" businesses are suffering, Ford lays off a bunch of people, I'd say right now my hometown is totally stressed out!!
The CAW will be the death of my hometown...just wait and see.
