Is this a proper article in a newspaper?

Does this cross the boundary of the first amendment?
This was an article that was written in my school's newspaper last fall. This article was clearly placed in the commentary:

The Actual Article

This news piece was actually rather fun: Not only did we have all sorts of protests and what not, lots of media coverage!! We even had The Daily Show cover it.

Sacramento News 10 Coverage
Even made some random person's web blog
Cheerful Protestors...

The backlash of this article was severe: We had a few students, under the "supervision" of a certain professor, wanting to get a few people fired. It was rather interesting.

Hoo, boy! I guess that started some "dialogue" huh? To answer to your question, as long as it was on the OpEd or Commentary page, why not? Bring it!

Obviously I shouldn't have to express my views: I am a member of the Outlook staff, and I am also a writer: I believe in being able to write what I want, and when I want. (Of course, I may sometimes wish to write something rather silly, but I should still be able to).

I believe his article was one that you should tell your friends, not get it published.

Although, I know from a first hand experience, unfortunately, he is partially correct:
Quote:
Sierra College doesn't have the hottest girls, unless you are incredibly superficial. By superficial I'm addressing those that are immersed in nice clothes, the mall, cell-phones, cars, and Vogue magazine.
This school isn't like any school - There are always loads of girls that seem to only be there to be eye candy... I walked by a girl one day that was talking to herself on the phone, trying to make herself look important?!? I quietly whispered, "Hey hun, might want to turn down the volume of the phone when you do that."

Gomer: It's almost like that year round. One of the better things about California..

It's interesting that it is written by a guy about girls, almost as if he has figured them out. He implys that he knows what they are thinking and, therefore why they dress and act the way they do.

I seriously doubt it he has found the magic window into a woman's mind.

I'd like to see a rebuttal written by a woman.

Basically, men have no clue as to what is going on behind those cute little eyes!

IMHO...

That's scary. That article described my High School verbatum. Nice to know Asheville isn't alone

I don't see much of a problem with the article besides the use of the word 'bitchiness'. Besides that, it probably would have made our school newspaper (of course no-one reads it so who cares?).

I'm impressed by the size of the attention it received, but not at the overall outcome. Things like that are bound to draw flak.

Once, a friend of mine got so tired of 'preps' at school that he and some friends made a website completely bashing preps. It even had a 'Quote of the Day', with stupid things said by a 'prep' (at first with the name beside the quote, then with just initials). They were threatened several times to be sued, but no one could realy sue them except that they put a disclaimer on the main page when they had no insurance (which an assistant proncipal pointed out helpfully). They eventually took the site down, saying it was not meant to be a permanent site anyway, and they wanted to vent some minor frustrations.

That sounds exactly like every school I've ever seen. Nothing special.
