Gaming Flower Bed VS Dog....

This weekend I just finished one of my long drawn out projects. I made a raised flower bed out of landscape timbers. The flower bed is 4 timbers tall, has an inner diameter of 2 feet, and 2 sections that are 8 feet long.

I went to the store and bought hundreds of pounds of dirt to fill them up with and then stood back and nearly broke my own arm patting myself on the back. I decided to treat myself to a movie, and 15 minutes into the movie I decided to look out the back window at my work of art.....

75% of the soil that I put into the beds was laying all over the yard. It looked like a bomb had gone off right in the middle of the flower beds.

I don't know what to do. I've tried giving the dog new toys, wearing him out with excercise, chasing him around the yard while hurling those new toys at his head with all my might.

Nothing works. He just goes and destroys the flower bed again and again. What do I do?

i google this lots of ? and answers

Question: Dear Anne, I discovered your web page and have this question. Rabbits are eating my newly planted Burford Holly bushes. They (the bushes) are about three feet tall. Someone said to spread mothballs around the perimeter of the mulch. What do you say? Thank you, Jake from Leesburg, FL

Anne Clapp: Mothballs will sometimes keep rabbits away from plant material but you need to put them in a container of some kind so children and family pets don’t eat them. Sometimes putting them in an old nylon stocking will work. There are some sprays that contain hot pepper that will keep rabbits off plants. The best solution seems to be a short fence left in place until the plants get enough old growth that the rabbits don’t like to eat.

Yeah, I googled plenty. I would rather hear from people that I've known for a few years that know what they're talking about.

Googled:
"get a couple heads of garlic, put them in water, blend it up really good and wait a few days. Spray this on your flowers."

Kinda defeats the purpose of having flowers that smell nice.

Probably has an amendment in it (poo) that the dog just cant resist---look for a product called "Crap-away" its also called "Curb-dog"---you can probably spray the perimeter of the bed and itl all be over...

Hmmm, Cow manure. I didn't think of that being irresistable. I was thinking of finding some rose clippings and ammending the soil with them till he got the picture. lol

What about a underground electric fence/collar. I am thinking of using one of these to keep my puppy out of the childrens play area. The dog likes to dig in the sand box and then take the childrens toys.

I thought about the electric fence thing... it may be amusing to watch him learn where not to go.

I had this problem years ago, too. I tried every kind of spray/scent there is. No luck. The dirt smelled better than the deterrant no matter what it was.

So I vote for the electric fence. Or maybe ask Bill in San Diego if his electric shock collar works. Maybe a few days of "conditioning" will do the same thing!

Sprinkle Chilli Pepper in your flower garden. I'm sure the pooch will not like his mouth (nose) burning up. He'll stop.
