Blood for oil for votes?

I'm not a believer in the theory that oil was behind the Iraq invasion. But this excerpt from last night's 60 Minutes interview with Bob Woodward suggests something even more disturbing:
Quote:
Prince Bandar enjoys easy access to the Oval Office. His family and the Bush family are close. And Woodward told 60 Minutes that Bandar has promised the president that Saudi Arabia will lower oil prices in the months before the election - to ensure the U.S. economy is strong on election day.

Woodward says that Bandar understood that economic conditions were key before a presidential election: "They’re [oil prices] high. And they could go down very quickly. That's the Saudi pledge. Certainly over the summer, or as we get closer to the election, they could increase production several million barrels a day and the price would drop significantly."

When I heard that it knocked me off the chair. If true, it is far worse than Gore/China fund rasing scandal

neat ploy.

Ok if prices go up you can bash bush and now if prices go down you can accuse bush.

Now bandar may be helping Bush, but what is bush doing in return. Bush's friendship with Saudi Arabia may pay a dividend.

I am not sure what the problem is.

You don't see what the problem is?

A foreign government colluding with a presidential candidate to manipulate oil prices so as to benefit the candidate and you don't see what the problem is?

Right. GWB is supposed to tell the Saudi's not to lower the price of oil? Just what is he supposed to do. GWB dosen't run Saudi Arabia.

Maybe GWB should threated to drill domestically.

I guess the question is he colluding to lower prices. Which implies quid pro quo (how ever that is spelled.) Or are we talking about accepting another countries decision to lower prices to assist a friend (I say loosely).

How is it different from when america tries to leverage prices in a non election year? Ultimately even then it helps a president who will become a candidate in the next 4 year.

A smart president pretends oil isn't important to our economy and let anyone who wants to attack and take over countries who sell us oil.

We only use it for SUV's right? And only rich people drive them, right?

If the price of oil triples because of Saddam or some other shiek, India will be sending jobs here becase we will be so desprate for work. Any work.

High oil prices are bad for everyone except the homeless.

No, but the Saudis shouldn't be repayed with 'easy access to the Oval Office.'
