She was right ... after a fashion

The American health care system, a patchwork of government-provided benefits overlaid on a voluntary system of private-sector coverage, is a case study in economic inefficiency. Companies that provide health care to employees put themselves at a disadvantage to competitors—domestic and foreign—that don't. And because uninsured people frequently receive care—from the government or hospitals—those who pay for health care are essentially subsidizing those who don't.

In the early 1990s, big business largely opposed Hillary Clinton's ill-conceived effort to establish a government-run universal health insurance plan. But over the past several years—and especially in the past year—large corporations, and the trade groups that speak for them, have been subtly changing their tune.

Businesses are ready to dump health care on anyone who can catch it. It's the Republicans and Democrats who differ on how to pay for it.

The Dem's want a single payer system where the government pays everything and takes it's premiums from paychecks and taxes. Basically against medicine for profit. Co pays on a sliding scale.

The Rep's want a system that requires everyone to be insured who is working and with the government being the insurance company of last resort. They want medicine for profit. Co pays negotiated between employer and provider like today.

If business can shift expenses to third world economies for lower wages, why wouldn't they jump at the chance to dump the benies? The danger is what kind of breauracy is going to be the overhead? One that eats 25% or 60%...

Uk is a good example - it mainly relies on 'shipments' of doctors and nurses from lesser devolped countries further increasing their plight. Plus our surgeons are the highest paid in the world. I heard somewhere that there was an operation scheduled for 3.30 pm but none of the staff wanted to do it because it would run over their work time and go into 4.30. Most of them didnt do anything that day and went home early.

Government controlled health care just doesnt work, the private sector however is brilliant.
