when to dim

me and ruby were driving home late last nite. i m not a big headlight dimmer when in the park ave, cause the lights are adjusted so low, they dont bother oncoming vehicles. but if i get"flashed"(quick brights on/off from approaching vehicle) i dim em ASAP. but....

there are a select few folks on the road who deem it necessary to click on their bright lights and keep em on till the "offender" (me)dims his lights. to these bullys,i refuse to dim.

so,instead of polling,i thought i d ask:

do you "flash" oncoming bright/lighters??

or do you click on the brights and keep em on( aka"bully")?

and if you encounter a "bully" do you give in to him/her??

or do you refuse to dim ??

i figgered, after reading/participating in the type your name with your elbow thread,i could come up with something equally or more useless to talk about

brad

lol, Brad!

Me personally, I never consider my "manly pride" to be on the line when a fellow driver is being a jerk. Cars can be pretty big deadly things. I don't like playing games with 'em.

So, I'd just dim it, and keep on driving safely.

Right to that sucker's house where I'd hit 'em with a baseball bat.

Just kidding.

well my 92 saturn's headlights are weird... the regular headlights are the dimmest by law (it looks like someone is holding two "dollar store" flashlights in front of the car) but the highbeams are the brightest allowed by law (when i turn them on it lights up above my sun roof)
so i always turn mine off when there is any on comming traffic...

if someone blinds me from the other side, i flash. if someone is blinding me from behind i tap the brakes (so they flash) and then slow down to below the speed limit.

btw, everyone blinds me in my saturn because it so low to the ground....

I always flash. Usually they flash back high's signifying thier headlights are out of adjustment. On a narrow road I always worry about distracting a drunk with the added challenge of dimming their lights. So I flash wayyy ahead!

I always dim. I'll flash the high beams at oncoming offenders. If they don't dim theirs, I just call them *ssh*les and flip them the bird as they drive by.

I always dim the headlights to oncoming vehicles, without fail. If someone has their brights on coming towards me I'll flash them, and if no response I may or may not flash them a second time. If still no response then they are inconsiderate jerks and I shrug them off.

Today, (and in the past 30 ~ 40 years or so) I dim when an approaching vehicle comes into view.

I used to be aggressive and only dim when asked (they flash their high beams)... and I would sometimes leave mine on high beam if the road was bad or deer in the area etc.

One night that all came to a screeching halt when this old lady ran in the ditch.. I stopped to help, and was told that she would not have run off the road if I had been courteous enough to dim my headlights...she was blinded. Ok..so her eyes were bad..but...what if she had swerved into my lane instead of the ditch?....

From that night until today, I have always dimmed my head lights as soon as I see an oncoming vehicle...(unless of course if I am on a 5 mile straight a way and I can see one coming 2 or 3 miles down the road.)

Thats the rule and example my parents set.
I always dim mine when the other cars headlights come into view.
I will flash mine when theres get anoying.

One thing I have noticed is if I just bump the switch when flashing someone it even brighter than the brights alone.

what really anoys me is people with poorly aligned headlights. if your low beams are not working as well as they should for you they may be aimed to high or too low.

here is a guide to help you find out if yours are aimed properly. on most cars its not hard to adjust them.

I always dim my headlights, no matter where I am.

I don't bother flashing my lights to anyone. Usually I would only do this when there is a speed trap or something set up up ahead. My experiences have always been that the person driving doesn't care, or I am warning a cop that he has his high-beams on. He really loved that.

I really hate it when people forget to dim, but I have to remind me that they probablt did just that. Forgot. Therefor, a quick flash is what is appropriate. I do suffer from slight road rage, so I might keep them on sometimes...but I can't recall when I did that last time...so it's not often.
