It's refreshing that a politician actually takes a course of action that betters the world without checking with the pollsters first.
Courage and conviction is the enemy the Democratic leadership will continue to face. All of the Clarks, Woodwards, and Michael Moores are not strong enough to turn the Saddam's of the world into the Democrats' alter boys.

Actually, it doesn't really benefit anything in the long run. Just like the fall of the Soviet Union isn't exactly a good thing in that it destroyed the bipolar system of stability. Politicians usually tend to focus on only long time goals.

You have to love someone who openly defends the Soviet Union and yearns for its return. That being said the DoD has had many plans on the books on going into Iraq since 1991. Every president since was briefed on them and GWB was no different. The way the article portrays it, planning for OIF started in earnest during Operation DESERT FOX under Clinton. But noone cares about the truth, media spin is good enough.

Oddly enough, most Americans are glad Saddam is gone. Some are just sad that America did it. The Democrats wanted him to die of old age while the UN garnerd up the will to ask him to step down.
Does anyone remember the charges that the US was "starving thousands of Iraqi children with the oil - for - food program" that Saddam and Kofi Annan's son were skimming billions off of?
I suppose we could have left well enough alone and let the skimmers skim, and the starving starve. So much for compassion and justice from the Democrats!

Radar, not everyone is a neo-con like you. From an international standpoint, the fall of the USSR wasn't that good of a thing. Had it not fallen, the problems of black market weapons wouldn't be as bad. Also the USA wouldn't be the only hegemony. Dont you see how much problems have being generated over the last decade from being the only superpower in the world? Maybe you dont care what other nations think about us, but that hatred is a cesspool for brooding terrorism.
Chuckiechan, it's not Americans who live in Iraq, it's Iraqis. We took out Saddam, but we also took out their national infrastructure, we took away millions of jobs. And you're still wondering why they hate us. Hmm, maybe it's because we destroyed what livelihood they had. There are always trade-offs in government and you made due with what you got. I think you guys have become complacent living in a democracy like this. Maybe you should go over to a totalitarian nation and live for a few years.

The issue is freedom. Not raising another generation of Americans hiding under desks waiting for a sonic boom and a flash. You can't go back to your old world.

The only ones who aren't are our dead soldiers and their families.
Sadamn was contained and Iraq was relatively stable...Look how much progress the invasion and occupation is doing. And the final outcome looks like the biggest mess in the history of our country and theirs. Anybody here have a solution ????? June 30th is going to be the biggest fiasco this planet has ever seen and there isn't many who have enough control to predict the results of this whole under-planned invasion and occupation. All we can do is pray to God for devine intervention because man has surely made a mess of this one.
