Talk Illegal to catch mice without a hunting license

In Cleveland, Ohio, it's illegal to catch mice without a hunting license.

Chewing gum is outlawed in Singapore because it is a means of "tainting an environment free of dirt."

In Waterville, Maine, it is illegal to blow one's nose in public.

IMO, these show that lawmakers pass laws that deal with situations they have dealt with. For example, some stateman in Waterville saw some poor sap blowing his nose and found it crude, so he took it upon himself to make sure no one else would have to watch the evil act.

Here's another example: In Joplin,MO, laser pointers may not be used by anyone under the age of 18. The issue was brought up several times by teachers who were constantly annoyed by students with the devices. But a city ordinance was not passed until one evening when a laser pointer was shown through the window of a house that belonged to a member of the city council. The dude freaked out and the ordinance was passed at the next meeting. Obviously, most politicians are only worried about the issues that concern them directly or their close friends.

BTW, I am very closely connected with the laser pointer incident.

If you've ever had to clean chewing gum of a pavement or clothing, you'll realise why it should be banned... it seems to have the same persistence as cigarette stubs. Ick.

actually you are wrong. chewing gum is not outlawed in singapore. it is the selling of gum that is banned. you are allowed bring gum in from other countries, you just arent able to sell it. one of my friends (and neighbors) here at school lives in singapore.

Here where I am, it was mandatory to have someone walk in front of your motor carriage with a flag at all times it was in motion until the last year or so.

No-one apparently noticed that this 1900'd law was still in force.

You also had to pull over and stop the engine whenever a horse approached. Of course, we all did that, all the time

At the time they were written, I suppose they were useful laws. But nobody repealed them until some wise aleck found they were still in force and cited them in court over a traffic offence (tried to make a fool of the judge). They got repealed fast after tthat!

Cheers

I used to live near Chester, Chesire,on the English/Welsh border and it was still legal to shoot a Welshman inside the walls of the city with a bow and arrow. They never repealed this law that was centuries old.
This is a great city though, I think it is the only city in Europe that has a complete wall ringing it and it makes a great days walk.
