Your Funeral

Just curious how many of you have a will, and/or funeral arrangements.

Well, I don't have a will, so I guess I better make one:

I hearby upon death leave all my debts to my mom.

ok. sounds good to me! It's only $5k of debt from student loans, which is easily paid off w/ my engineering job I'll get, but if I die before then *cross fingers that I don't* then she'll have to take it all on.

Why such a gloomy topic?

Funny you should ask.

For some reason the song "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)" by the Offspring got stuck in my head, naturally I hate the song.
So, since I was bored, I did a little mental exercise about being driven insane by the song, and eventually killing myself. Which led me to start this thread.

My marker, cemetery plot, will and living will plus power of attorney are all setup and paid for.

No-one will be out one penny when I leave this earthly veil of tears...even the individual who will act as my executrix will be paid more than enough to take care of her days worth (if any) plus her time, husbands time to accompany her etc.

I just felt the responsibility to have such matters taken care of well in advance.

You know, I don't have a will.
Anybody know of any software (prefer freeware, trying to save money for my suvivors ) for simple wills, including living wills ?
I have life ins up the wazoo inc morgage specific and I assumed it would go to my wife. Am I wrong ?

If you're legally married everything will eventually go to your spouse, but it's always best to have everything nice and legal in advance so probate doesn't take so long.

Some states may have different pollicies..but from what I have read, (and been told), if there is no will..the state takes it. I would check this out, if I were you.

Having a will and power of attorney doesn't make someone look like they are getting ready to go..it gives those that will be left in charge a sense of relief, and responsibility for you. You (nor I), know when we may leave here in a hurry..it could be today or tomorrow when we are meeting some car that has a blowout and meets us head on.

I have had a will and a power of attorney for over 20 years...very fortunately, I have not needed either one, but those that will need to make the final arrangements have been relieved that at least I have put in writing in a legal document what I want done.

Go Google WILLS...I did, and have updated my own..its not difficult, but..I would not write my own if it may be probated. A simple will where there is not much property to change hands, or if you have not setup a trust ets... a home made will will suffice..but if there is a chance it may need to be probated..let an attorney do it.

Maybe in some states..but not all.

Yep, I have a son who feels the very same way. He doesn't work, has no income...and does not plan ahead. He has no family, and probably will never have a family. One day, he will put a world of hurt on his siblings..(or maybe the county), and "potters field" somewhere.

I can ignore a lot but this needs to be said - like Bovon has said - you cannot make your wishes know after you have been hit with somthing - sometimes there is no time to fix things - and the state/prov takes its time fixing things, at your expense.

Power of attorn and wills need to be kept current - and remember - when you get hitched - it nulls your will till you rewrite it.
