relieving supermarket confusion

when me and ruby were doing some grocery-getting at our local Econo Foods,i came up with a stroke of true brilliance(and let me tell you-those strokes dont come very often ).

why not make a list of everything in each aisle, under the appropriate number, and when you come into the store, your items will be on a list pertaining to each aisle, instead of having to search thru the store, looking up at the signs like a tourist wandering around NYC?

aaaanyway,we have the list made, showing each aisle listed by number with the items in each aisle listed under each number and a space to write down whats needed in each aisle.

VOILA(sp?) no more jetting from frozen foods 29 yards to produce for cabbage!

now that i think about this,i ll bet SOMEONE has thought of this before,or is it just me?? HA

only took 30 years of shopping to figger this one out!

later,eh?

It won't work because they constantly change where everything is.

I don't even use a list half the time. I just go down each aisle looking at what is there. I'll usually notice stuff I need.

I just pictured Shawn very slowly wandering the aisles of the supermarket, with a confused and intimidated look on his face, occaisionally looking behind him with his hand on his chin wondering if he forgot something. At the end of the day, several supermarket employees find him blacked out behind a meat freezer, clutching a pack of Crayola markers. ...

This is what happens when I don't sleep... My imagination gets a little... overactive.

(Going to bed now...)

Sounds like perfect hunting technique, just wait until you have a gatherer with you taking you through the gathering process controlled by a list and helped by offspring throwing 5 packs of AAA batteries in under the frozen peas.

I know where everything is in my store...I still do the same as Shawn, though.

There's actually a very good reason why they make you look for things. Newer stores are designed specifically to compel you to walk past, and hopefully buy, stuff you hadn't planned on buying. If you could just walk in and buy what you wanted, they'd be losing money.

Very true.

Most people will pick up milk and bread when shopping. Grocers know this and will place them near the rear of the store at opposite ends.

My MIL figured that out ages ago.

My mother-in-law(93 !!) has my wife go to the supermarket (2 different supermarkets depending on the sales listed in the newspapers) once a week. When she makes the list, she makes it IN ORDER FROM MEMORY . When she writes the list, ITEM 1 will be on aisle 1, the second will either be a little further down that aisle, or THE NEXT aisle, the 3rd item, just down from that, IN ORDER of the way my wife will walk . She does this so my wife, who is handicapped, will make the fewest steps to get everything on the list.

According to my wife her mother hasnt been to the supermarket in over 10 YEARS, but she hasnt seen her mother make a mistake YET!!!
