My mom gave me this lawnmower....

Which isn't the newest thing around.
It's an old Lawn Chief it has a Briggs motor and it has a label of General Power Equipment company on it with model and date codes on it which I assume is the manufacturer.

I've been searching and can't find anything on it or the motor.

The motor is a Briggs and Stratton model 93882 type 3118 the rest is rusted to being unreadable.

Is there an old lawn mower website? I'm sure this thing is no longer being supported by a company, if it even exists. Or any idea how to find a manual?

btw what size is a spark plug socket? Do they come gapped so they work for everything?

13/16" if memory serves. You just need a deep socket to reach over the plug.

I've got an old B&S manual at my parents place somewhere. Next time I am home I will see if I can dig it up. Meanwhile, dig around here http://www.briggsandstratton.com/dis...sp?DocID=63670

Lawnmowers are easy. For my 5th birthday I was given a lawnmower short block (stripped, mechanicals only) and a socket set. I wasn't a redneck or anything, I just was extremely interested in how things worked and was constantly trying to disassemble things in the house. They found that feeding me things rather then letting me find them on my own was the best idea.

That gift set me on the path to being the person I am today. I can fix anything!

Have fun with your mower =)

The metal housing around the flywheel (around the pull cord) should have they engine info stamped on it. I am not finding anything at B&S for that model.

According to B&S, that number is an impossibility. The first 2 digits should be the engine displacement in cu. inches, I think. Their largest model is around 30, but definitely nothing up in the 90s. Unless it's so old that it's not even in their current numbering system.

Yeah most briggs are pretty much the same as far as tune up and such.
The sparkplug size is prolly 3/4 socket, most are.they are different from a car sparkplug.they should be able to tell you where you buy the plug what to gap it at.

Also I think "Lawn Chief" is the house brand of either Western Auto,or Coast To Coast. If you have one of those stores around close they may be able to give you more info.

nunyadam:
that number you posted is not the engine number, rather a link to a screw with a similar part number.
