There is one thing I dont understand about Iraq

Everytime I watch the news I see Iraqi's with AK47s and even sometimes RPGs are the Iraqi's allowed to carry weapons ?

Why not order them to leave their weapons at special drop-off sites , Those who do not could then be considered the enemy
and be shot on sight.

Anyone know why they are allowed to have weapons ?

It'd be extremely foolish to expect them to just hand over their weapons. They've always had them.

So ?

I think it's rather simple , Either you give up your weapon/leave it at home when you go shopping or face the risk of being shot.

If they really want peace then there is no need for weapons
If they are worried about someone comming into their house
well then leave the weapon at home.

People in the US have always had weapons but
it's still illegal for you (in most cases) to carry a M16 or whatever
when you go shopping.

Sweden recently sent troops to Liberia in a UN peace keeping mission to carry out disarmament and to collect and destroy weapons and ammunition.

They wouldn't be doing that if it had no effect , So why is it not done in Iraq.

Maybe the Iraqi's don't want to give up the weapons.

How do you disarm someone that doesn't want to be disarmed?

If they dont give up the weapons you consider them the enemy
and shoot them on sight.

Perhaps the leaders would see it as an attempt to suppress the iraqi people, and advice to not give up the weapons.

And, as people WANT to be lead, they would not give them up. That would mean every iraq citizen is an enemy.

The growing discontent with the invaders isn't helping with that issue anyways.

//edit:
To me it seems like a good idea though, but I don't know anything about invasions or things like that.

They are allowed small arms for self and state protection... As far as I know, but I agree with you about the RPGs and grenades.

They'll be smuggled in anyway, and how the hell can you force people to disarm...sure, ok, shoot them on site if they have a weapon. I doubt Iraqi's go around pointing weapons at US troops anyway, and if they do, they are ready to engage, thereby negating that point.

Unfortunately, there are no simple solutions.

I'm not really sure how to to interpret some of your posts.

Are you saying that the Iraqi's should be allowed to have weapons or that the task of disarming them would be extremly difficult if not impossible ?
