Better To Be a SURVIVOR Than a VICTIM

Many of us have had bad -or downright evil --things done to them.

My condolences to Bill in SD, CA , who recently sufferred a loss under cryptic circumstances.

How often we are reminded of the words, "After the first death, there seems no other." Yet, each seems like the first.

If something really bad has been done to yo, and I've worked with people who had bad things done to them --from a Veterans Administration Hospital to a Special Education Division.

Nothing can undo the harm.

But experience has shown a greater harm is done if you don't take action to change your role from Victim to Survivor.

When it comes to that, the fight is always worth the odds.
No matter how strong the enemy is.
Always.

Isn't everybody that isn't dead a survivor, by definition?

Reread the post.
The quote is from a Poem by Dylan Thomas.
It speaks to the feeling, following a "death in the family".

I believe the distinction between Victim and Survivor is clear enough.
And understandable by anyone to whom an irreversible harm has been done.
Thank you.

And Welcome to TecHIMO, GeeRaff.

Being a "survivor" can create a more positive outlook while involved in a process of healing. Survivors do what it takes to reach a healthy life again--including talking with others about their experience. It also gives them strength to help others along the way.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the meaning of the passage...and I swear I'm not trying to be obtuse, honestly.

I guess I just never experienced whatever great feeling folks get by "triumphing" over their past and, like, "embracing" a new, better self image that I hear so much about.

Maybe it's just me, but that stuff just always struck me as contrived.

Thanks for the welcome, by the way.

AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !

Yo, GeeRaff
All survivors do have something in common.Raff. The issue here isn't so much one of "triumphing". We are are talking about about things that can't be reversed.

An active alcoholic can stop drinking, for example, but the issue then becomes tackling the harm done to oneself and others before he stopped. A women who has been raped isn't going to "reverse that, but she can do things to alter her role from a Victim to a Survivor.

What all survivors have in common is the notion that there is some course of action for which they are Responsible. Without responsibility, one cannot be Free.

By accepting the responsibility for a response, one becomes free. This is the Code of all Survivors:

"I am responsible for what I do about it."

Doh ! I hope I didn't reverse all the good work I did with NEO, who waited patiently all these years !

AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ! [DooGspeak;can only be understood in context]
