Japanimations
I have been a fan of japanimations since Galaxy Express 999. They repesent the best of movies and animation. Not to knock Disney or Pixar but the story lines in japanimations are fresh not like the old Grim Brothers fairy tales. My first true taste came with the movie Akira

No.
Never, ever was interested in them. They all look the same - from the older ones up to the new ones....never liked fantasy stuff anyway.
If we're comparing it to Disney, at least with Disney I can actually be interested in the plot and it's not all about love and dragons.
^^^^^all IMHO

Akira is by far away one of the best - if not THE best - animated movie of all time.
I've been into anime for almost ten years. Back then it just looked cool, but once you get into it, it takes on a whole new persona. There are some seriously good movies out there, and series. The Record of Lodoss war comes to mind.
If you think that all anime art looks the same, then you haven't seen that much, or haven't payed attention. All of which is of course up to the viewer. That's like saying that a band's songs all sound the same. They don't, once you listen to the music a few times. They may all be of the same genre, but they are all unique.
I haven't watched anime, or movies in general in a long time but if I had to recommend between anime and any other animated format for people in our age group, it would definitely be anime. Heck, I know a lot of adults who enjoy anime because some of them have serious plots that you can quite easily lose yourself to.
Okay, I'm done ranting.

| Robotech
^^now that was a deep-plotted series. I've also recently gotten into Cowboy Bebop...
Movies are cool too, especially Akira and the 2 Vampire Hunter D movies.
Sci-Fi used to show a lot of anime on Saturday mornings but not anymore |

I haven't paid much attention to newer stuff. I do remember Robotech...
But I loved Battle of the Planets (1978-1980?) (Gatchaman) as a kid....Just found out they have started releasing them on DVD...I got the first two so far..
Anyone remember that show?

i think it's officially called anime, not japanimation.
i never got into it. never understood the point, other than a lot of japanese people living out some werid fantasies through their animation. ever notice all the characters never look japanese? and that they all have wird colored hair and the men are very feminine and the women are very vixenish and the plots are always the same?
i miss old school american animation. they don't do that like they used to either.

I have been a fan since Akira, have seen many, but some of my favourites would have to be Spriggan and Princess Moninoko (I dont think thats the right spelling)
