Could someone please tell me why so many blatantly lie whenever money is involved? I swear, telling the truth has become the extreme rarity!

Friday morning, this girl backed out of a parking place while I was driving by and she nailed me (I saw her at the last minute and couldn’t swerve enough to get out of the way). She never even hit her brakes until after the collision. Anyways, there is a huge chunk of her rear passenger side bumper missing, and my front passenger door is buckled in, my rear passenger door is pushed in, the metal around my rear wheel well is bent inwards, the plastic bump guard is scuffed from my front door all the down the back of my car, and there are several scratches in my paint – from my sliding against her bumper. So, we exchange information and since I was late for class and nothing too serious, didn’t file a police report. So, Friday night, I file a claim against her with their insurance company. Today, I find out she filed a report against me stating it was my fault!

Ahhhhh, this type of thing pisses me off so bad. I really am not worried about it because anyone with more than two brain cells could assess whose fault it was after looking at both cars’ damages. It is just the blatant lying that makes me so angry.

Sorry for the rant…had to let off some steam.

You're the ... that didn't call the police when it happened. Sorry for your accident, but this rant didn't deserve my time reading.

Some more common things in America.

$8,000 in credit card debt
Eating fast food for three or more meals a week.
Less than $65k saved for retirement.

Sure, filing when you get home may be common, but like most other common things in america, it sure as hell doesn't make it smart.

Gee, tough crowd here today, ILC! Sorry about your misfortune. As for police reports, here in San Diego, the police will only respond to injury hit-and-run accidents. So if there's no officer on the scene to corroborate your story, I don't see how it matters who filed what first.

This is exactly why the cars should not be moved until the police report's being written.
I've been hit several times, and once I hit the other guy - but after the 1st fiasco of finger-pointing, I learned. I will NOT, under any circumstances, move mine or allow the other to be moved until the police are on site. I don't care if the hiway was blocked at rush hour, I ain't moving it - and yes, I'd gladly accept the ticket for obstructing traffic if it'll keep me clear of fault.

Also, never accept a cop's word that "you won't need a report, just call your insurance". He's just trying to avoid paperwork & you have a right to insist on it.

In the town where I worked as a police officer, the police have not responded to accidents on private property for years unless there was an injury. Most traffic offenses don't apply on private property anyway. Also, many states now have "no-fault" insurance and assigning blame doesn't matter.
