I Propose This Proposal...
Instead of setting the clocks ahead or back [whichever time of year it is] one hour on one day, why cant we take six days to set the clocks ahead or back 10 minutes each day. After the six days the time will add up to one hour, no different than before. The only difference is the change is more subtle and should help people get acclimated to the time change. I think the one hour in one day is too drastic.

I think the only problem here will be in mass transit and some idiot forgetting to change the clocks. imagine if one train is on time and the next is 10 minutes early? you'll get a massive train wreck!
some people can't handle one change nevermind six

Well I would hope the transit people could remember to change. Its the passengers that would forget.

| My goodness...it's one freaking hour, big deal.
If certain people can't survive without one hour of sleep tonight, either a) go to bed early or b) deal with it. Although the whole concept of setting clocks back/forward is rather silly.

TRB, believe it or not, it appears that your idea was actually the way it was originally proposed!! Quote:
The idea of daylight saving was first conceived by Benjamin Franklin during his sojourn as an American delegate in Paris in 1784, in an essay, "An Economical Project."
Some of Franklin's friends, inventors of the oil lamp, were so taken by the scheme that they continued corresponding with Franklin even after he returned to America.
The idea was first advocated seriously by a London builder, William Willett (1857-1915), in the pamphlet "Waste of Daylight" (1907) that proposed advancing clocks 20 minutes on each of four Sundays in April, and retarding them by the same amount on four Sundays in September.

I think changing the time 6 times gives you more job than changing it one time, and sacrifice 1 hour (which isnt that much anyways) I have survived more than 6 hours of difference all in one when moving around the world. Its hard at the beginning, but you get used to it. 1 hour is nothing IMO.

HAHA, see my idea wasnt so stupid. Thanks Ed_S for digging that up. As for all you naysayers...well .
But as Warthog stated, I think it's pointless to change the clocks at all. Since we have to, we may as well make the transition a little easier
