Did we colonize canada?

This is something that's been bugging for a while. I'ts rather a quick question: Did scotland colonize canada during the highland clearances (hence the french connection), and ireland the USA?

The earliest settlers to what is now America was from England in the late 1500's. There is recent evidence that the Vikings may have been the first explorers to visit what is now New England. The King of England claimed this as the 'new world' and sent many of his prisoners over here to colonize the North East.

Later on, in the early 1600's. other nations sent people, and Ireland, Scotland as well as Germany, France, Italy etc were all coming over, as soon as the Native Americans were moved back a little.

Who actually sent people to colonize what is now Canada... I am not sure.. or when they arrived.

It was mainly British and French settlers who colonized Canada. The French settled Lower Canada (which is now primarily Quebec) while British subjects settled Upper Canada (which is Ontario).

There is evidence in Labrador of a Viking settlement which is the first known European settlement on the North American continent.

Bovon,

Those people were sent mostly to the Southeast, GA. and SC. to be exact.

For the first 200 years North America was settled by many western europeon nations. France, England,Sweden,Holland, and Spanish at first c.1600-1650 AD. Then later came the Germans,Italians, and Swiss c. 1650-1750 AD. The Irish, Scots, Norwegians, Dans, and others not untill after 1750 AD. And even then there are large influxes of people at different times: EX. Irish duing the 'Potato Famine" c. 1825-1850, and the Swedes in c. 1905-1920. And lately c. 1970 Central and South Americans and c. 1985 Asians.

North America is a rather vast area!
