It makes his daddy all weepy.

The former president appeared to fight back tears as he complained about media coverage of the younger Bush that he called "something short of fair and balanced."

"It hurts an awful lot more when it's your son that is being criticised than when they used to get all over my case," said Bush, who has often complained about media coverage of both Bush presidencies.

PS: Note the audience -- the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association annual convention. You can't make these things up...

"There is something ignorant in the way they dismiss the overthrow of a brutal dictator and the sowing of the seeds of basic human freedom in that troubled part of the world," he said.

Well, there IS certainly something ignorant about it... and those with a political axe to grind seem to revel in it.

I suppose his parents aren’t cold blooded, heartless heathens, who’d sooner stab their offspring in the eye than give them a hug.

The president’s father is merely demonstrating the typical emotional connectivity that all parents or at least most feel for their children. If someone publicly berated me, rather founded or not, my mother and father would be sadden, perhaps weep, maybe even become verbally aggressive and attack my attacker(s).

If someone publicly berated mine, I would be incensed and sadden especially if it was akin to the bitter, hate filled, bile spewing, verbal abuse as currently being directed at the president.

FTM, of course overthrowing Saddam Hussein was a good thing. What's not clear is that it was worth over $150 billion and some 600 or so allied lives to achieve it. There are lots of other more important things to invest in -- like the war aginst terror, perhaps?

Let's wait until the results are in; stories like this aren't encouraging about either the finality of our war effort or the health of the new democracy in Iraq.
