Linux mood Anyone?
Sometimes I get into a quite interesting mood when I am sitting at the computer. I have that mood right now. Been away from Linux quite a while, because of the lack of free time because of my studies. But when I sometimes just surf the web in Windows, I get this strange feeling. I start to think about downloading the .iso files of some Linux distro and install in on my computer just to be away from the everyday thing. Have the three .iso files of Redhat (Shrike) 9.0 downloaded in my computer right now, and I am thinking of installing the OS in my computer. I just want to get that feeling of being in a unknown place, surfing the web, and just looking at everything and seeing something different. I like Mozilla so much in Linux. Even if I use it in Windows, its not the same feeling. Sometimes the screen and colors just seem different in Linux. Maybe I am just being ridiculous, but its the way I feel. But I also get these thoughts of me reading alot of manuals, explanations, etc and just getting frustrated. Trying to figure out how to install a single program pops into my head many times when I am in this mood. I still remember that day I decided to install the Nvidia driver in Linux. Took me literally my whole saturday to just get it to work. But I enjoy trying to figure it out, and just spending time thinking. Its different. Its a different feeling. Its a different world. But most of the time the story ends up with the word format, and staying away from it for a period of time, until I get this mood. Now I just want to sit in front of a Monitor showing me Mozilla in Redhat, surfing the web, mostly TechIMO, and just enjoying the view. The different view. The unknown view. I would love to become a Linux professional. Maybe not a pro, but someone that understands the OS and knows how to handle it. To tell you the truth, if I was I would never use Windows again. But I aint, and it seems so far to become one. I want to be able to handle the OS the way I can handle Windows. To know pretty much the basic stuff for handeling the OS correctly. I would feel special if a friend would come home to me one day and saw me sitting in front of a Linux distro and telling me 'What the hell is that?' Do you guys feel as I do, or similar thoughts, feelings? Dont know why I am telling you guys this. Oh well, gotta go install Redhat on my machine. My second post on this thread would probably be from Mozilla in Linux

i COMPLETELY understand. i feel that way all the time...whenever i'm using windows i just feel bored...but whenever i'm doing ANYTHING in linux it's exciting, even something as mundane as surfing the internet. it's just the feel of it.

I understand exactly what you mean. They make us use Win2K at work. Every chance I get, I boot my Knoppix CD. They won't let me set up a dual boot.
I can't wait to get home and fire up my Linux box.

Actually I get a nice feeling using Windows 2000 Professional also, and I enjoy using it more than Windows XP at least. But its not the same feeling as using Linux though, and it gets pretty boring. But the classic look of Windows I enjoy more than the fancy look of Windows XP (even in classic mode) and the good looking icons. But Redhat is a totally different story

I'd have to agree with the general sentiments. However, I have a preference for FreeBSD over the myriad of linux distributions. In the end they all turn out similar though.
In the end though, I always manage to mess up the system bad enough that it demands a fresh install. |

| Holy crap, I do the exact same thing!
Maybe they should start a group called LUA (Linux Users Anonymous)?
