Why have people started doing this?
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
bla,bab,bla bla,bab,bla bla,bab,bla bla,bab,bla bla,bab,bla bla,bab,bla
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK now I don't really remember this done much before the beloved wally_x came to the forums. But it's a drag especially in a long thread when you just kind of want to skim it for the high points and someone posts this kind of quote.
I figure if it was important enough to quote and respond to, I should read the post again to see what I may have missed...
But this kind of quote, with no member name, well heck that's a read the thread again kind of thing...
Know what I mean?

| are you talking about that?
i do that because i usually only quote a section, not a whole post. also, its usually the content not the person who said it that is important

Yeah, I hate not knowing who said it. Then when people do that to quote from a news site or something that gets on my nerves because I spend time looking through the thread to see who said it, only to realize no one did.

I agree with Surreal (see, it IS possible!! ). Quote: Originally posted by butch81385 i do that because i usually only quote a section, not a whole post. also, its usually the content not the person who said it that is important | It's better to know who said it. Even though you might see the content as more important than the quoter, it still has to be read in context. That means knowing why it was said, and that means referring to the post. The quote button is very good for that.
I think it's actually more work to post it like Surreal did, rather than use the quote button. And to be correct, you would need to say WHO the quote is by anyhow. IMO, anyway.
Cheers

I was going to say something... there was one member who would nest those quotes and I didn't know who the hell was saying what... sometimes it seemed like they were going schitzo.

It's prolly cause I use the quick reply, and I just too lazy to type Who I'm Quoting, that and my typing is not very good or very fast. That's my story and I'm sticking to it

Some people have lost sight of what the "IMO" in Techimo means!
So we quote to show that the idea wasn't our own, and thus, not totally boneheadded.

Oh, okay, I didn't understand at first, it's the quoting of somebody, (with no SOURCE) that you're objecting to...and here I thought you were objecting to people saying Bla bla bla...
My rule of thumb is, if the quote has no source, it's discarded as hearsay.
People can say (or post) whatever they like, but the ones who cite their sources are the only ones I would give any credibility to. |

I am guilty...cuz I dont really know how to use the quote thingy, lol....so I have no standard way of doing it....so with me it is even worse..because not only do I not say who the quote is from..sometimes it may not be clear if its a quote at all!! lol.
my apologies.
