What is the Louisiana School?
The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts is a preeminent state supported residential high school with competitive admissions for high ability students. Students apply as sophmores for the opportunity to attend the Louisiana School as juniors and seniors. As a public school, there is no tuition to attend, and only a nominal room and board fee. Established by the Louisiana state legislature in 1982, the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts belongs to an expanding group of state-supported, residential high schools founded to serve the academic, artistic and creative needs of gifted high-achieving students. Sister schools now exist in fourteen states, with others in various stages of planning.
What Can the Louisiana School do for You?
The Louisiana School remains unique among the nation's public residential schools in offering a core curriculum of study in math, science, the humanities, and the creative and peforming arts. The School's accelerated curriculum includes traditional college-preparatory courses as well as specialized electives and opportunities for independent study and research. Since the first class commencement in 1985, more than 320o graduates have earned more than $ 111 million in merit-based scholarships. Graduates from the class of 2003 earned 9.4 million in merit-based scholarships plus 1.2 million in TOPS.
