When 3600rpm drives are striped......

Thought I'd have a little fun with software RAID on two, probably 3600rpm, 3GB IDE drives I yanked from computers housing Pentium 1's.

Testbed:
AthlonXP 3200+
512MB DDR400
Asus A7N8X (RAM in dual-channel, 2x 256MB)
IDE 80GB Maxtor, 7200rpm on Channel 1
3GB drive 1 on Channel 1
DVD drive on Channel 2
Second 3GB drive on Channel 2
128MB Ti 4200

Drives were striped using the Disk Manager snap-in for XP. The HDTach wouldn't work with the software RAID setup, so I scrounged up the ATTO benchmark. Results are in a screenshot here:

I have one or two more of these drives, I'll add them later if I feel like it. This setup isn't really for storage, just something I thought of when I was bored.

Cool, there almost sorta fast like that.

Thats sorta whet im doing with old drives I collect, I stick em in and use the spanned volume feature so I get a few nore gig of storeage space out of em before they die.
