So what if my weekly gasoline expenditure goes from $13 to $16? If it's helping to keep a few SUVs off the road, that's more room for the rest of us.

On the contrary, I saw a report that said most SUV owners/buyers are not hindered at all by the rising gas prices. For the person who drives a $30-40k vehicle, assuming one tank/week, their gas bill going from $40 up to $45 or so isn't that big of a deal either

And people want to know why the economy is in the tank ( pun fully intended ).

The population here in San Diego is around 3,000,000.

Figure around 2,000,000 vehicles ( including commercial ) then at $15 @ week on average more to drive that's $30,000,000 @ week in disposable income taken out of the economy.

Times 52 weeks that adds up to $1.56 billion dollars @ year taken out of the San Diego economy alone just on gas.

Throw in the state and the rest of the nation and the amount is staggering.

Gas here is now higher than Hawaii and that has to come in on a ship from here in California.

Disclaimer: Statistical information is presented as fodder for discussion and not represented as accurate by any means.

If the actual number of vehicles is 7.62589% lower and the extra average cost of gas is $13.65 @ week - so be it.

Most of the difference in gas prices are due to state taxes, not location.

Not true.

My parents live in the mountains of Arizona about 450 miles from the refinery in L.A. that also supplies San Diego ( we're only 100 miles from the refinery ).

Our gas comes from a pipeline and theirs is trucked in.

Our gas tax is 18¢ @ gallon and theirs is 18¢ @ gallon.

My price $2.20 @ gallon and their is $1.74.

Geez ! Stop complaining about paying $2 a gallon
I would gladly pay that.

I have to pay $5,50 a gallon

18cent tax WOW !!
here I think 80% of the price paid is tax
