Morning Edition's Bob Edwards retiring
Bob Edwards, whose deep, tranquil voice has been as regular a part of my morning as coffee for the past 25 years, is retiring from NPR's Morning Edition.
Great job, Bob, and good luck in whatever you choose to do next.

I am more than a little upset that they're forcing him out, just for the sake of "freshness" or change. To me, it's as if CBS told Walter Cronkite he was fired. |

Ooo. I'm going to miss him; he does "dumb crook" stories better than anyone else. |

Here's the CNN take on it. (Still mad!)
You're right, Theo! Who's gonna do the "dumb crook" stories? |

I guess Al Franken could apply for the job.

Pexter,
Don't get me wrong, I listen to NPR every morning...that being said I think Al Franken would fit better with NPR than Rush Limbaugh.

And I'm still cranky about it. 24 years and 6 months. Yet they were in such a hurry to get rid of him that they don't even have the new hosts selected. Of course, I've heard Inskeep and Montaigne when Bob has been away, and I'm not too impressed. IMO, this is just another example of some young "suit" or group of young "suits" having to prove that they're meaningful. Meanwhile, one of the best shows in radio pays for their ego-massaging.
I've read the webcast transcript where the guy explained his position. It just doesn't wash.
Thanks for all your efforts, Bob!

I always remember Bob's Friday chats with Red Barber. In fact, that was one of the elements that got me addicted to Morning Edition.
