FedEx
/rant/
I HATE FedEX. I really do. and I love Newegg; this presents a problem for me, it puts me in a love-hate relationship with newegg and other online venders that only ship via fedex. Grrrrrrrr. I have to leave kindergarten-level instructions on my door for the fedex guy or everything goes wrong. When does fedex deliver to my house? 2:45 pm most days; a time when most people are not at home. Here are a few choice experiences with fedex.
1) playstation2 ordered, shipped fedex, left on my doorstep... i live in an upstairs apartment next to the only laundrymat in town. this is not smart!
2) HUNDREDS in computer parts ordered from newegg... yeah got here in two days but it was left on my doorstep!
so i solve this by putting up a note: if i'm not home please leave packages inside door (i leave the door unlocked if i know packages are arriving and i won't be home... i only knbow they're coming by checking tacking every morning because the website doesn't update until day of delivery!)
3)just last week i check an order coming by way of fedex; it says the order is out for delivery. it's a day off. i have nothing to do. i wait. and wait. i don't pee, i don't shower for fear fedex will come and i won't hear the guy knocking (reason being it needs a signature release). i check and get my regular mail at 1pm. 3pm and still no fedex guy. 5pm and no fedex guy. I'm angry, no not angry yet; but my feathers are now ruffled. i go online and check tracking. Delivery attempted, no one home. yeah NOW i'm angry, no enraged. i go downstairs and sure enough there's a door tag saying delivery attempted at 2:47pm. not home, must call to reschedule!! the *&^$#*(&^# fedex guy never knocked on my door. THe only reason I can think of is that he read the note on my door and decided to ignore the "If not home" part! so I call FednotExpressforme and they say oh sorry, we'll be back tomorrow at the same time. yeah not happening since I'm working for the next 6 days and live alone. I ask if they can deliver before noon. nope sorry, you have to come and pickup your package at FedEx! It's a 40 minute drive i had to make just to get my order!
I am so sick of the ridiculousness i go through with this company! i am seriously considering boycotting them and paying more for my products elsewhere just so i don't have to deal with their crap! i never have problems with UPS or the USPS. Heck I'd take Billy Bob's Pickup delivery service, free fricken manure with every purchase!
ahh!
okay i think I'm done

Have it sent to a neighbor or relative thats always home or your work etc instead---
You could install a 1 way dog door in your front door and instruct them to shove it thru the opening, end of problem :-)

In the shipping instructions ask Fed Ex to keep at the facility then go pick it up yourself. I do this all the time. Or like TKOP said, have it delivered elsewhere...

haha dog door i like that that'd have to be pretty big for some of the cases i get though
yeah the neighbor thing doesn't fly though, I've only got one family in town I'm friends with and they're never home during the day. It just drives me mad that I have to take all these precautions just to get packages delivered, I don't feel it should be this kind of hassle, esp since the other two major carriers can follow a note and are willing to change delivery times.
*edit*
yeah pickup would be fine if fedex wasn't over an hour round trip. that's just a waste of my time imo. hehe thanks for the tips though.. i just don't think fedex is doing a good job

Maybe your particular FedEx guy is a bad apple. Call or write and complain about him. I used to work with FedEx on a daily basis regarding dozens of packages a day. They are a top notch company and extremely reliabe. But even the best companies have a bad apple here or there. Help them weed him out by complaining.

Here they wont let you have anything if someone doesn't sign for it.
I'm amazed that they leave packages outside the door or even inside the door if the person who lives there or a friend/relative who can identify himself with a valid national identity card or drivers license doesn't sign for it.
FedEx insures their mail here - What they lose they pay
so leaving something outside a door isn't done, atleast not here.

I dont really have any problems with fed-ex at all.
my driver stopped at my house, noone answered, so on his way back he took my road again just to see if i was there. i was, and i got my stuff the same day.

I ship to my girlfriend's office, if I am not able to be around.
It usually results in an extra day due to shipping and billing address being different, and ID confirmation needed by shipper, but the couriers haven't screwed up since I started doing this.

Just the opposite here for me. FedEx is great. They always show by 12 and wait for somebody to answer the door before they leave. I live in an apartment complex. The unit above me and mine are both connected via a hallway. FedEx and UPS will leave packages in this hallway since it is out of sight and out of the elements. UPS is always loosing my packages. When I ordered my laptop they didn't show till 8 at night. This was in October! When they finally did show they didn't knock a the door. They just left it. Even though a sticker right next to my address said signature REQUIRED! Oh well. At least I have one good company in my area.
