Your Neighbors' Political Donations Online

Don't know if any of you saw this in the news threads but ........

It's snooping on the neighbors with a political edge, courtesy of a new Web site. Just type your address and ZIP code into the "Neighbor Search" tool at fundrace.org, and you'll get a list of what your neighbors gave to any of the presidential candidates last year — and how much.

Would it be wrong to paper your neighbors' house with signs of their political opponent? Sorry just a evil/passing thought.

I forwarded your link to a local political AM radio talk show host. Some highly connected people in my community made some surprising substantial donations to certain candidates. I expect I might be hearing some political hay flying in the coming weeks.

I was surprised to see that some corporate execs gave to $2K each to both Bush and Kerry. Let's hedge those bets and get on both donor lists! Shouldn't that cancel out your influence as well as your $$$?

It's an interesting site. The information is all public, of course; you have to report donations over $200 total (I think) to a given candidate. It is a little voyeuristic, though.

Searching my brother's zip code, I found that a Republican city council member has given $1500 to Bush. No surprise? Well, he's gay, and he's since announced that he won't support Bush in November. So I'll keep an eye on his contributions and see if he gives to Kerry...

as a fundraiser, it's a great tool to see who has disposable income
