W.Va. governor: We are not amused!

Gov. Bob Wise has sent a strongly worded letter to Abercrombie & Fitch protesting their latest t-shirt slogan, "It's all relative in West Virginia" and demanding that they destroy these weapons of mass disinformation.

Wise said the T-shirt depicts "an unfounded, negative stereotype of West Virginia."

No comment from the governor of New Hampshire, victim of another shirt's slogan, "New Hampshire. 40 million squirrels can't be wrong."

What ever happened to laughing at yourself?

I can see that shirt being insulting if inbreeding was a significant part of West Virginia. But if it's "an unfounded, negative stereotype", then I don't see what the problem is.

It just "isn't a shirt" though: Remember that little stink about the "voting for old people" shirt?

*edited* for clarity

How can you relate and/or compare a shirt that says "AMERICA DESERVE 9/11" with a shirt that plays upon a simple, harmless stereotype?

The province I live in gets made fun of in international ad campaigns regularly... We laugh it off and enjoy the attention.

Besides, what if someone walks by you and has a shirt on that says "AMERICA DESERVED 9/11," it's alright, it's only a shirt.
im not sure 9/11 and making fun of a state for something that does happen there in some parts of the state the same thing.

But you can't please everyone, the shirt simply shouldn't have been made. If it's going to rub some people the wrong way, why bother printing it? It's kind of like what most mothers say, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it." I don't know if A & F intentionally set out to get people pissed, but they probably did.

It's not like Abercrombie & Fitch needs any publicity, anyway. Especially after activist groups considered their past catalogs a bit too raunchy for teenagers?

There are so many worse shirts out there, some of the shirts A&F make dont even compare to others

They card you for that magazine? I find that unbelievable, in California I get carded for everything, but when I was in high school I saw plenty of teenage (well under 18) girls running around with that magazine.
