All because of winpopup...and my ******* Assistant Rector

I decided to post this because after winpopup was mentioned in another thread i remembered my experience just before christmas of winpopup on our school's network.

me and 2 friends got into serious trouble by using winpopup at our school. they said that we "flooded the network with lots of messages, making the network ground to a halt" and we got banned from the computers for 3 weeks (when its a LARGE part of my Graphic communication course to be on the computers...thankyouverymuch Mearns Academy, you have pretty much made me fail).

Then the assistant rector spoke to us individually. Its funny, he said to me "go into my office and sit down" and thinking he's a badass when he came back into his office he said "i never told you to sit down!" Forgetting that he actually did. He then told me i was failing my subjects and i better buck up especially in computing where he reckoned i would fail cos i was cocky (i got an "A" for an assessment that very day in computing). He treated me like dirt and tried to make me say things that i didnt do and insinuated a load of crap. I just stood up straight and said "Yes, sir" and "no, sir" when he spoke to me. The one time i did look at him, he shouted at me. Then he spoke to my mum and told her if i APOLOGISED FOR MY BEHAVIOUR i would get back on...
I wrote a flat and lifeless letter to him apologising and i got back on the network.

ALL THIS just because i sent a message to my mate saying "Hiya man, chekkit: When we're in IT we can talk to each other, neat eh?" and he replied. Messages totalling around 2K. WOW!

there must be something that can be done about the way i was treated in his office, cos it sure made me feel like dirt. What makes it even worse is, i'm not even a bad pupil (projected grades for highers: one A, three B's, and a C), a guy was caught with dope on him and he got a day or so suspension from school.
I hate my school.

now his comment on saying it brought the network to a halt is complete BS

winpop up is basically the same as net send but you have to load winpopup up to use. Network admins use net send all the time in the county i work at. if i need to get ahold of the other information services interns i net send there computers and we chat about something small.

just get over it. people who have no real knowledge of computers will try to talk down to you. Move on and keep your nose clean. don't do anything that is questionable (espically in school) and you will get thru fine

What kind of a school do you attend? Sounds like you have a right to be I really dont know how I would have handled that.

I guess it would be the equivalent of your High School.
I'm in my penultimate year before leaving.

He's a chimp anyway. He said i couldnt be a prefect cos i didnt participate in enough out-of-school stuff (...can you say TECHIMO?? )

Gee, reminds me of the time when someone was teaching one of these corporate training classes on Lotus Notes and we figured out how to send mail. It would beep everytime someone got a message and disrupted the class. He yelled at everyone and said to stop moving the mouse around since it slowed the server down....

Those that can, do, those that can't, teach....

IMO he does sound like a monkey with a ego. There are individuals out there that love to belittle people when they have the chance (that whole sit down stand up stuff has my blood boiling) especially folks with a lively manner and personality. Never fails to astound me that they think they are gods gift to the human race and everyone else is there to serve them. This is negative thinking however and you would do well to let it slide off your back unless you are in a position to take some type of action against this person. Dont let him destroy your confidence sounds like you did well to appease him cant blame you either I'll tell you I flamed my principal when they caught me smoking on school property and he tried that macho man bs (unfortunately they have the power and control to make your life miserable) it didnt do me any good I sometimes wish I would have done what you did and kept quiet and yes sired, no sired the man. I love this saying: conform and reform.

yeh, randolph. I'm kinda glad i didnt provoke him or anything like i normally do. I was annoyed when i got home tho cos he gave my mum false information to make her against me. Luckily he met her the day after he spoke to me and i told my mum exactly what happened and that he is gonna give her some uninformed bull when he meets her.

I feel for u. when i was in high school i got a failing grade in computer programing for not letting the basketball jocks copy my work. but i bid my time and i got my revenge You definitely have more self control than would have, i tend to respond badly to people like that

I am really happy at my school. I have an understanding with most teachers, they know i dont have to be there and what i do there is for me so they really dont care what i do... As for winpopup. They deleted that of all the computers except for the two admin computers, withen a week we had reloaded it from the two admin computersa nd we all got really big talks, he he. They still have no idea how we got it back... And we tried with all our might to crash our network with it and it didn't phase i at all. so you killin your net work is *deleted* .. We had 45 people sending as many messages as possible to over 400 computers and our survived.

Oh well, just remeber that you get to go home to a life you can lead and he is stuck in a dead in job he has to make interesting by climbing up your arse.

I had a good principal... strict but fair..

My dad him and I had this intellectual talk about my punishment for being late 5 times in a semester... but to no avail... he understood our reasoning but felt his reasons outweighed the disadvantages....

Oh well... only a day suspension... I GOT TO GO HOME!!! WOOHOO!!!

I had a little fun in grade 8 though... they left a loophole in the server... a shared folder had everybody as permissions..

So as a joke I control c'd and pasted it like 1000 times.... but I didn't know one thing... under NT (the server) they could see who created it....

OOOPS!!! Stupid mistake... off the comp's for the rest of the term... (1.5 months)
