Has a discussion here ever changed your mind?

In Politics
TIMO is always filled/overloaded with political discussions/soapboxes where people fill pages upon pages of "discussion"

... but has it ever changed your mind about a topic?
Hot Topic 1: Homesexuality - Always brings up hardcore religious beliefs that will probably never sway...

Hot Topic 2: War - Lots of mud slinging in here.. but its always you believe one way or another never in the middle

Hot Topic 3: Election - Wear a cup into this dicussion as you may take a few below the belt punches. Extremists abound!

But within ALLLLL of these gazillions of threads... have you EVER changed your mind about a hot topic and changed your beliefs?

I'm a quiet person that really doesn't talk much IRL, I don't generally argue about topics so I personally dont' understand the point when its extremely rare that posting novels about a topic will ever change somebody's mind. IF you're lucky you might be able to educate somebody (CM's posts regarding Islam come to mind) but most of its just back and forth arguing. (IMO of course)
Then you get the extremists (don't think I need to name names ) that know EVERYTHING therefore will never change sides.

Dunno... I just don't get it
SO bottom line, have you ever changed your mind about a hot topic based upon discussions in the threads?

Has not happened to me yet, but thats maybe because I am not involved in many political threads and things like this. Just sometimes, almost never. Dont know why, dont ask me.

It has shown me that the lines are not as set in stone as most would believe.

I don't get into these debates much either, but I will say that sometimes they can be informational, and I have learned quite a lot (between the flames. ).

But to say I have had my mind changed on a "hot" topic... no, not changed, but maybe tempered on occasions. Some of the good, solid arguments have made me realise my viewpoint isn't the only valid one. Basic principles I believe in have not changed, but some related side-issues may have adjusted.

There is a lot of intellectual property hanging around TIMO, IMO.

Never changed my mind but like others here I have softened my stance on alot of issues.

I believe that many prejudices can be overcome with a bit of knowledge. Knowledge is what we share so well here. Keeping an open mind when we read others posts can enlighten most of us.

Israel is the biggest example...i used to think that the palestinians had no reason for their actions and that Israel was the perfect little government...now i realize why they are acting the way they are...but i still think that the extreemists are..well i won't say because it would elicit surreal's feared pink text
