Anyone else ever have a PSU blow up?
My Antec 350w SL350 blew up tonight....!!!! Scared the #$%& out of me! I was on the net and "BANG" like a large firecracker went off, and then the smoke and "MAN DID IT STINK!!!!". Then it did it again!!!!!!!! This time plastic pieces came flying out inside the case.... and more stinky smoke. I would have believed an older generic PSU but an ANTEC SL350??? Never expected it to blow up or what ever it did. So far no damage to anything. Scared me though... it was a pretty loud bang |

Yikes! Worst I've ever gotten was the smell of dust getting heated up to the point of making some smells. You would think that an Antec would be more stable, but even the best companies have products that fail from time to time. At least you'll have a better chance of Antec standing behind their product than some fly by night wiring company.

Problem is I don't have a receipt.... I might write to them and see if they will support replacing it.

I shorted one once. It just popped the fuse.
That smell was most likely the phenolic circuit board.

I had a crappy Deer PSU give out on me. I think a capacitor blew. It was silent and then started spewing smoke from the exhaust.

get this....lady called the store I used to work at...said her pc wouldnt come on...I went out..turned it on at her house...sat there a minute..nothing.
Unplugged it..brought it back to the shop.
So I sit it on my desk...take the side cover off....we had these nice big desks and rolling chairs....so basically sitting down you were like eye level with the power supply.
So I turn it on...nothing.
So I lean my head OVER INTO THE SIDE OF THE CASE....to see if anything is visually amiss....then...
BOOM..it BLOWS!!!! Blew out GREEN smoke.
LOUD.
Dude across the room jumped!!
That was fun......reminded me of my days back in the AirForce working on Radios..back then that would be a once a week type thing....matter of fact if nothing blew up by itself..we'd make it blow up.
(1) set 16v capacitor on bench, 2) turn off power to 220 at breaker...3) hook 220 leads to capacitor..4)step across room...5)throw breaker.....6)try to find all the pieces...try not to forget step 2)

I'd rather not have any more bangs from my PC again in the near future... First thing that went through my mind after the second bang and the plastic bits falling inside my case weren't very good. I'm just upset at Antec. I've had PSU go bad in the past but they would just go out, like you hit the power button and nothing works. This was just ridiculous.... smokey too......
