What is this thing?
This thingamajig has been floating around my spare electronics junk box for nearly ten years. I have no idea what it is, where it came from, what it does, or why I'm holding on to it. If I knew what it was I'd probably throw it away but since I don't I can't just toss it out. It's about 2 and a half inches diameter.

A bunch of lights, it appears. Hook the wires up to a 9V battery and see what happens.

Are they light diodes on the front? Looks like one of those electronic Christmas decoration flashers - you know, that get built into Santa hats and stuff. Did Gossie break another Santa hat?
If they are not light diodes on the front I have no clue.
Cheers
Mick

I would guess the back lite for a handheld phone, with the buttons in a circle. |

Yeah, those lights appear to be LEDs.

I thought so too. In fact it kinda looks like some of the new led flashlights. But this thing is 10+ years old. I have connected to a 9 volt battery, no response. However if I connect to my 18v drill battery then the lights (or whatever they are) just barely start to glow orange.

Hmm, doesnt sound like LEDs though, since they take minimal energy to work.
Also, since its 10+ years old its probably not LED either. I think white LEDs have come about just recently.

Any other clues, OuT? Came from a building site? Car shop? Anything?
Cheers
