TechIMO and ResellerRatings originally existed as two different sites under the same ownership several years ago.
We slowly migrated ResellerRatings into being a integral part of our previous community site, SysOpt. Barring a legnthy legal discussion, both sites were eventually sold. Later on, ResellerRatings was split from SysOpt in a purchase agreement initiated by the original site owner.
After cultivating an extensive online community at TechIMO, we sought to unify our community base with the features found at ResellerRatings. Since the forum represents our community, we found that directly linking the two site's forum database would spur increased interest when re-launching ResellerRatings.
Since then, ResellerRatings has become the top-rated vendor review service according to many well-recognized industry publications.
We continue to link the two sites together in hopes of encouraging members from each site to participate at the other. This strategy makes great sense, as most people using ResellerRatings are technology and computer hardware enthusiasts, and TechIMO is a site for computing enthusiasts.
One must also account for the administrative overhead required in operating two distinct communities. By using the same backend systems, we can have a single administrative staff that oversees forum operations for both web sites.
In addition to ResellerRatings and TechIMO, we also operate PhotoPost, a site devoted to our online image gallery application. As expected, PhotoPost also shares a common base with our unified forum architecture.
