Judge: DVD-copying software is illegal

http://news.com.com/2100-1025_3-5162749.html?tag=st_lh

In a ruling released Friday, Judge Susan Illston granted Hollywood studios' request for an injunction against 321 Studios, saying the small software company has seven days to stop distributing its DVD-copying products

even know dvdxcopy is IMO a horrible program, i feel its stupid that we are not allowed to back up our own software and dvds.

But you do have to realize that this day in age a dvd burner is cheap, a computer is cheap and you can rent videos cheap. So in a sense i can understand why this judgement was made in a way, but i still dont condone it

If we are not allowed to backup our copies of purchased DVD's, then maybe we should be allowed to get free replacements from the company if the DVD gets stratched?

We paid for it...

Maybe a class action suit against the MPAA for racketeering related to DVD copy protection is in order.

Huh? What're they gonna do now? Cops at the door with search warrants? Special 'burnt DVD' sniffin' dogs?

"Hey, is that a copied DVD in your pocket, or are you just..." eh...

This is just silly!

If you register a DVD ir CD you should be able to do a direct exchange for a damaged product at any authorized retailer.

But I do agreet that piracy is so easy now that these companies need to protect their interests.

I agree. But it seems to me that they're trying to lock the barn door after the horse has been stolen, eh?

If piracy weren't such a problem then there wouldn't be a need to go after dvdxcopy (or kazaa for that matter). Of course then I guess nobody would use kazaa (lol).
