Just to interject some thoughts
I dont think communism really works.
So what does that leave....capatilism?? Then again I dont think capitalism works either when you get right down to it.
-----
As far as what was said about communism and what makes people work----> "How can you expect someone to work harder than whatever they feel hard is, when they aren't getting any extra in return for it?"
That in itself, no offense meant at all.....if I read that right we are talking about a monetary return for their efforts. But is money all that matters? When you get right down to it...after you are clothed, housed and well fed...do you really NEED a lot more money than that? Do you REALLY need to live like a king?
Whatever happened to giving, working for the good of ALL as opposed to self. How can a system be right that has rich people living around the corner from destitute....and the rich have 50 times what they need for a good life and the poor neighbor 5 blocks away are starving.....that is in America that I am talking about. We must admit that capitalism doesnt exactly come off smelling as fresh as a rose when you look at the fruit of it.
Obviously in America we have WAY MORE than enough money and resources etc so that NO ONE here should go hungry or sleep in the street......but sleep in the street they do...and starve do death and freeze to death and sell themselves to prostitution to feed their kids....while other individuals live as KINGS...with huge estates and tax loopholes and politicians and judges in their pockets.
So am I saying we should be communist or marxist?? nope..those countries that have accepted communism etc are no better off are they? Is China better off? Is or was the USSR ever remotely looking like something worth living in?
So what would I propose as a way of life..as a way of society?
Well...you all know me by now and you know what governs all my opinions so maybe unless someone asks I will spare you any bible verses about helping one's neighbor and about "if someone doesnt work then that someone doesnt eat" etc.
Instead I will point out a form of society that most here will scoff at....yet the proof is in the pudding.
for example scan down the page a little at the link below and think of what their community life is like. (thats just the first link I found on a google search more or less) Does anyone go hungry? Is anyone forced to steal? Does a rich man live next to a poor one? Is anyone being a dead weight by living on welfare? Are their parents wasting away in old folks homes? Were they terrified by Y2K? oh..and by the way...their divorce rate has soared lately....all the way to 1%--->
Let's be honest though...we are too "cool" to live this way?
Now I ask you....where do they get the values that allow them to live this way? What lies behind their beliefs?

found interesting quote on another site---> "They do not wish to participate in unemployment insurance or social security programs, as these would reduce their reliance on each other, the glue which holds their community together."
