I work in a hospital and was told today that the union(1199) i am in, is threating to take away everyone's health benefit as of march 4 this year. The contracts ends march of 2005. The hospital owns them 839,000 dollars for most employees that work there. I am a little bit confuse about this contract. From my understanding I thought a contract could not be broken, or could it?

Usually in the contract between the parties its written in that the contract will be voided if certain things happen. Owing almost a mil, could be one of those things.... i mean the insurace company in this case have to protect themselves too

yeah, but that would mean that thousands of people will be without health insurance (personally not me i'm cover by the goverment) Most people really rely on this insurance.

businesses dont care. they are losing money...

and if they continued they may go out of business (depending on size.. and what if all clients did that) and then alot of people would be out of insurance.

i mean... wouldnt you be upset if someone owed you almost a million, and the debt was gaining in amount?

its not the company, but your work that you should be upset at.

I question alot of people in my job about this and it seen like they are covering up for this owner. They say things like i assure you he is not pocketing any money. this union is very expensive, there are lots of other things we have to pay per employee. We have to pay job security, childcare, education, amount other things, which is alot of crab. The IRA freeze everyone retirement for the fact that this a.. h... did not match employees contribution. He put everything under he's son's name, so who is going to take the fault for this?
