Aristide Ready to Die to Defend Haiti

Guess we'll find out if he's a man of his word.

Quote:
President Jean-Bertrand Aristide said Thursday he was "ready to die" to defend his country, indicating he would not surrender power as demanded by political opponents and rebels driving the chaos in northern Haiti.

I wonder if there is any polling data to indicate what the general consensus in the country is.

What are the rebels fighting for? How has aristide wronged them? Who knows the history on this. I mean when you win a landslide what the hell are these people complaining about.

Unless he is doing horrors that are hated by all or even a large subset of the population.

This is like the Iraqis, most favor giving america a chance and hate the people fighting americans yet somehow this small subset of people can make the whole miserable. Absent the attacks by dead enders, saddam friends, and a few holy zealots who are afraid this is another crusade. the population is mostly glad to see saddam gone and favor seeing a new freedom based government installed.
