Traffic Bottlenecks

Washington DC is the happy home of 2 of the worst bottlenecks in the country.... we're so proud!

#7 I-495 at I-270 Interchange 19,429 hours
#15 I-495 at I-95 Interchange 15,035 hours

The 270 spur, and the mixing bowl...
I took my g/f through the mixing bowl last weekend, going from 395 south to old keene mill rd (yet another exit off of the mixing bowl)
She said she NEVER wanted to do that again

Thankfully I'm a lucky one and don't have to do either one for traffic everyday, but I definately fear going through the mixing bowl anyday of the week.

Kudo's to Los Angeles (no suprise) as they have FIVE of the worst!

I just spent 50 minutes on two miles of the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia at 11:30 on a Tuesday morning.

There's a reason people call it the "Sure-Kill".

whats funny here is that sometimes the main street to downtown denver, broadway, is completely packed.. then if you take the highway like a mile over, there is no traffic practically

Is that by Springfield Mall? Or is that north? Hell if I know, the only times I travel outside this area is when I go to VT

I have commuted in NYC and down here in Tidewater Virginia.

NYC had us by quite a bit. However My office happens to be located in a wonderful 6 merges in the first half mile takes me almost 25 minutes. after that I hit a sporadic 5 minute delay just before I get home but I can't figure out what causes that hangup. You get to the front of the pack and all is clear.

I am really surprised that the Hampton roads bridge tunnel did not achieve a high postion on the list. If that one does not make it I will tell you the front runners are truely horrible.

down here they have a brilliant idea to speed traffic up. They want to put tolls on the most heavily traveled roads again to pay for new roads. That will speed thing up . I mean have you ever noticed how the tolls on the Garden state parkway make the road travel sooooo much better

The LIE suckes but I believe that the 409 has it??? right???

The Hampton roads bridge tunnel is terrible though. I think that the tunnel handles 25,000 cars during rush hour and you are delayed in excess of an hour??? wouldn't that be 25,000 hours per day. I would have to think that meets the 700,000 hours annual mark but a long shot.

Warthog yes
If you take 27 past Myer down to 395, soon as you get to all the huge flyaway overpasses with bad potholes you're in the mixing bowl and passing into I95, but you'll want to stay to the LEFTotherwise the 60,000 lanes from teh beltway merge in... and they're ruthless

heh, we just passed about 5 miles of solid traffic going against rush hour traffic on I66 ... they were all doing about 5 mph

--- edit ---

I meant the OTHER right hand side of the road
I got left and right wrong

I have driven in many states. You have not seen brutal driving until you get into the tri-state area around NYC.

Sometimes I find myself resorting to my secret NY driving skills to force my way in down here but for all the rude drivers I have met on the road. NYC is Rude central and completely dog eat dog.
